Excess thatch chokes a lawn and prevents vital nutrients and water getting to where it needs to go, which in turn can lead to disease and a very patchy sward, so a good quality scarifier is essential if you're a real lawn enthusiast, or pro/semi-pro gardener.

The PR550H has a generous working-width of 51cm, so it will cover plenty of ground as it works; and it has an adjustable working-depth (1.3cm – 2.5cm) and will cover up to 1207m2 every hour at 1.5mph.

The dethatching work is done with a flail reel that's free-swinging, heat treated, and tempered. The blades move up and rotate forward, so the machine propels itself, thereby saving you a great deal of time and effort.

Precision engineered and superbly well-built, this model benefits from some very heavy-duty components, including steel-rimmed wheels with roller-bearings; heavy-duty rubber tyres to offer great grip and handling on awkward surfaces; premium-quality steel pulleys protected by steel guards; and cast-iron construction-grade bearings: all these indicate just how seriously Billy Goat take build-quality and durability.

The engine is, of course, of similarly high quality and is provided by Honda. It's a 162cc GX160 OHV-type unit that offers reduced emissions and low-noise operation; and which employs precision-engineered components for lower vibrations and a longer service-life.

Height adjustment is infinite, so you can get the working-depth just right and save on blade wear.
